AngelHack Toronto – Developing CrowdFlip

AngelHack is a worldwide hackathon, hosted in over 10 cities. Toronto was the last hackathon of the AngelHack series this year, with over 60 unique ideas presented at the end of the weekend.

I was part of the CrowdFlip team. CrowdFlip allows people to specify their interest in doing something. Once this interest ‘prospect’ gets popular with other users, multiple vendors bid to provide the best experience associated with this interest.

After a user vote, the chosen vendor gets the customers!

Here’s the front page of CrowdFlip:

CrowdFlip uses Django to power the server-side components. For the styling we used SASS and Compass.

We also chose the Stripe API to process payments, it was really easy to setup and use.

This is an example of the interest page:

During the hackathon our team developed a fully functional prototype that supported multiple user flows. Personally, I think idea has great potential and it is possible that it will evolve into several different products.

Sacha Chua created amazing sketchnotes for all Angel Hack pitches, this is the one for CrowdFlip:

AngelHack was an amazing experience hack with friends during the weekend in a very friendly environment. I’m looking forward to future AngelHack hackathons in 2013!
